Linda Wade
Linda Wade; Mixed Media and Folk Artist. Curator of Mustee Folk Art and a Member of the Durham African American Quilt Circle. Linda Wade began her Art Career in Dayton , OH in the 1980’s. She attended Sinclair Community College, majoring in Commercial Art and Executive Secretarial; obtaining her Associates Degree. She successfully completed jewelry courses at the Riverbend Art Center, Dayton OH; wax sculpturing, jewelry casting, silversmith. Linda completed a series of ceramics class at Parks and Recreation Centers in Raleigh, NC.
In 1993, she created Mustee Folk Art; it is an African-Native American Cultural Art. It’s an art that combines all artifacts, elements symbols and style of both cultures; it was created to represent the mixed blood of both races and awareness of those that was stripped of heritage rights, undocumented, and labeled as Negro or mulatto in the early census. Her crafts and painting skills are self-taught; preferred media is fabric, canvas, and textile surfaces. She taught Art at the Vital Link Private School and after school program in Bunn, NC; also published Arts in Education: Color and Learn coloring book and workbooks. Linda has been a member of the Franklin County Arts Council of Louisburg, NC since 2010, She led the Student Art Council for years; served as a board member; now she is on the Diversity Team that creates events and programs for the community. She teaches Sip and Paint for the Louisburg Senior Center for the Arts Council.
